Jon Arretxe

- Personal history: Born (1963) and raised in Basauri (Bizkaia), I also lived in Vitoria for 15 years. Since 2004 I have been living in Arbizu (Navarra).

- Main studies, chronologically: Piano (Conservatory of Music, Bilbao); doctorate in Basque Language (University of Deusto, Bilbao); graduate in Physical Education (University of the Basque Country), Singing (Conservatories of Music, Gasteiz and Bilbao). I have also learnt, to a proficient level, French and English, at the Vitoria's Language-School.

- Work: I spent ten years teaching Basque language in the “Euskal Irakaslegoa” of the University of Deusto (Bilbao). Then I taught Physical Education for three years at the Basque University, in Vitoria. Since 1998 I have been earning my living writing, giving talks/presentations, and singing opera, in the chorus of Bilbao and Iruñea/Pamplona, and sometimes as a soloist as well.

- Books/Novels: Apart from some translations and adaptations, I have written more than twenty books in Basque, many of which have been translated into Spanish, and one of them into French (Rama et le trésor de la Grande Muraille de Chine). My latest books are being published in both Basque and Spanish at the same time.
